Steam & Spray Tools
Wood bending and smooth finishing in one practical lineup. Earlex builds the SS77USSG steam generator for shaping hardwood and the SprayPort 6003 and HV5500 HVLP turbines for cabinet-grade coatings — all backed by Wagner Spray Tech.

Check AvailabilityEarlex Steam Generator for Wood Bending
A practical way to soften hardwood with steam — for chair backs, curved rails, boat ribs, instrument parts, and decorative trim.
The Earlex SS77USSG Steam Generator connects to a shop-built steam box and fills it with high-temperature steam, opening up the wood fibers so the piece can be clamped to a mould or jig while it cools. Clean water only — no chemical softeners, no special additives.
A full 1.3-gallon tank runs for up to two hours; for shorter projects, a partial fill is fine. The unit heats in about 23 minutes (warm water shortens that), the steam box should reach roughly 212°F, and the included steam-box connector kit plus build instructions make it easier to start without sourcing every fitting separately.
The 1500 W heating element produces enough steam for small-to-medium steam boxes (a 5″×5″ interior with a 3–5 ft length is a common size). The 12-foot cool-touch hose gives flexibility for safe placement on the bench.
Steam time, by thickness
Rule of thumb: about 1 hour per 1″ of thickness. Hardwoods, straight grain, and well-seasoned stock perform best.
- ½″ (about 13 mm)
- ~30 minutes
- 1″ (about 25 mm)
- ~1 hour
- 1½″ (about 38 mm)
- ~1.5 hours
- 2″ (about 51 mm)
- ~2 hours
Wood species, grain direction, and moisture content shift these numbers. Always wear thick heat-resistant gloves when handling steamed parts.
Earlex HVLP Spray Systems
Smoother coats, less overspray, and a cleaner finish than brushing — on cabinets, doors, trim, furniture, spindles, decks, and small automotive jobs.
SprayPort 6003 — Pro Tier
3-stage HVLP turbine producing 5.5 PSI for stronger atomization with thicker coatings. Available with Pro-8 pressure-feed or gravity-feed spray guns. Includes a 25-foot Hyperflex hose with quick-connects, a 1.3 mm air cap and needle, a cool-grip handle, and a 360° rotating air cap for awkward angles.
Sized for serious woodworkers and small finishing shops working in polyurethanes, varnishes, lacquers, shellac, enamels, stains, milk paints, chalk paints, and properly thinned latex.
HVLP Spray Station Pro HV5500
650-watt turbine paired with a metal pro spray gun, push-and-click pattern selector for round, horizontal, and vertical fans, flow control dial, 13 ft hose, and a 5.5 ft cord. On-board storage keeps the gun, hose, and cord organized between sessions.
Built for serious DIY users, woodworkers, light contractors, and automotive enthusiasts on small-to-medium projects — oil-based and water-based materials including stains, lacquers, varnishes, sealers, urethanes, shellacs, acrylics, and enamels.
Compatible coatings (paired with the right tip)
Stains · Varnishes · Shellac · Lacquer · Enamels · Sealers · Oils · Polyurethanes · Acrylics · Thinned latex · Milk paints · Chalk paints · Water-based primers. Always match thinning and tip size to the coating manufacturer's spec sheet.
Why Woodworkers Choose Earlex
Built around real shop workflows — not over-engineered, not under-built.
Clean steam, no chemicals
The Earlex Steam Generator runs on clean water alone, so wood bending stays a traditional, low-fuss process. Easier cleanup, no chemistry to manage, and a workflow that fits home shops as easily as professional studios.
Workshop-ready footprint
A 1500 W element, 1.3-gallon capacity, ~23 minute heat-up, and 12-foot reach — compact enough for a garage bench, capable enough for a dedicated woodworking studio. The HVLP turbines are similarly sized for everyday spraying without dragging out an industrial rig.
Built-in safety
Thermal protection, pressure relief valves, an automatic suck-back valve, an exterior water level indicator, and a cool-touch hose. If the unit overheats it shuts off automatically and resumes after about 10 minutes — a real backstop when you're juggling a glue-up and a steaming run.
Backed by Wagner Spray Tech

Real Earlex Customer Reviews
“I bought this steam generator 2 years ago. It was "on sale" so I thought, "why not, I will eventually give it a try." Two weeks ago, I was inspired to build a trout landing net which required steam bending thin (1/8th inch) strips of walnut, birch, and yew wood. Out of the box and ready to go, I only needed to study th…”

“We purchased this for use by college students to learn steam bending techniques in advanced sculpture and furniture classes at the Mpls College of Art and Design. It was a replacement for an old purpose made steam generator that had vanished. Although a tad wary of the small size and plastic construction it did a splen…”

“Nice quality fittings and materials. I used this for a steam box I use to make toboggans. Generates steam quickly. Very easy and simple setup. Highly recommend.”

“When searching for a sprayer I could barely find any reviews for the Spray Port 6003, including here as most of the reviews were focused on the Earlex 5500. So here is my long winded review of the Spray Port 6003 for those who want detail from someone who's used it on a few projects. Like most people that are looking…”

“This is a great HVLP system. I have used many systems in the past and this is a good balance between quality and cost. The spray gun is easy to adjust and very consistent with it's results. I purchased this in the middle of a kitchen cabinet project and the finish using this sprayer is so good, I had to sand and finish the doors that I had finished using my old HVLP system.”

“I am a weekend woodworker and I had always wanted to try spraying my projects. I knew I needed an HVLP sprayer in order to spray latex paint but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I tried researching the web and really couldn't make a decision so I purchased the Wagner system with the stand alone turbine. I had bui…”

About Earlex
Practical workshop tools for makers who want clean steam, controlled finishing, and dependable equipment.
Earlex is built for chair makers, furniture builders, cabinet shops, restorers, light contractors, and serious DIYers who would rather invest in the right tool once than rig something improvised. The lineup pairs the SS77USSG steam generator for wood bending with the SprayPort 6003 and HV5500 HVLP turbines for finishing — two halves of the same workflow: shape the wood, then finish it well.
Earlex is part of Wagner Spray Tech, a fifty-year veteran in painting, coating, and finishing. Wagner operates across three businesses — Industrial Solutions for powder and liquid coating, Professional Finishing (Titan), and Home Finishing — which is why Earlex tools tend to feel like they were designed by people who actually spray and steam-bend for a living. Wagner is owned by two charitable foundations focused on families and children in its operating communities, and its Minnesota headquarters runs on a 140,000 sq-ft rooftop solar array installed in 2020 (1.6+ million kWh/year, ~⅔ of annual usage).
